Nosean
Large sanidinite ejecta with nosean (geologist's hammer for size comparison), western Sandkaule near Maria Laach Abbey, Mendig, Eifel, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, collection Karl Wilhelm Nose (inv. no. 2019_00064, size 31 x 12 x 15 cm). This sample is mentioned on page 114 of Johann Jacob Nöggerath's “Mineralogical Studies of the Mountains of the Lower Rhine” and is used on the following pages to describe the morphology of Nosean. The enlarged section shows a black-gray Nosean crystal next to white, tabular sanidine (crystal height approx. 9 mm) from this sample.
